Legislative Alerts! Seriously people.. YOU are the voting constituents - STAY
TUNED FOR NEXT YEAR'S LEGISLATIVE ISSUES EFFECTING YOUR FAVORITE PASSTIME.
Here's a wrap-up of what happened in the Maryland Legislature this session.
Be Ready to take action during the 2006 Session!
The 2005 House Bill 1251
which would have required you to register your off road vehicle, your pocket bike, your mini bike, your go ped..anything with a motor on it
died at the end of the session. But don't
worry, it will be back next year - bet on it! But you can do something about it!
Call your MD Government Representative! Seriously! Do it! They WANT to hear what you think.
The 2005 House bill 1290
was the long awaited OHV registration bill. We've fought this bill for years
but have softened it throught changes made to less harsh for District 7 residents, riders, and racers. The proponents included all the amendments we proposed
in 2004. Registration fees go to DNR to make new trails, minus MVA administration fees.
The money would have been matched 20-80 for Federal gas tax trail funds (TEA-21). An OHV advisory committee
would have been formed to make recommendations for trails and riding areas. If we
had to have an OHV registration bill, this was the one.
Then there was this one buried in the new low speed vehicle titling bill at 21-313 (a) is a provision that allows SHA and localities to ..."prohibit the use of any controlled access highway...by any person operating a motorcycle."
Seriously, any jurisdictional element can just say no more motorcycles on these roads. Read Maryland House bill #316 yourself.
