DISTRICT MEMBERSHIP 2008

We, as the District Board, have decided to have a two tier membership card for 2008. There willThere’ll be two forms for joining the District in 2008. The original white application will be for the same $25.00 and cover Hare Scrambles, Dirt Track, Enduro, ATV MX/Hare Scramble, Trials, Road Riding, and Dual Sport. There will also be a $5.00 additional card charge for holding multiple cards in other disciplines. This is the same structure as last year for these disciplines.

New for 2008 will be a yellow card/application that will cost $40.00 and must be used by all motocross riders. This card entitles the holder [any discipline] to ride any discipline and in any class in motocross that he or she wishes to compete, with no additional charge. An example is a yellow card holder can receive year end points and awards in all disciplines [motocross, dirt track, hare scrambles, ATV, enduro, dual sport, trials, and road riding] for one fee.

Last year we realized that most riders held multiple cards in motocross. The basic fee was $25.00 and an additional $5.00 for riding another class and collecting points for year end awards. What we didn’t realize that at year end we awarded every discipline and class division awardees $10.00 per rider in awards. Motocross is unique [except Dirt Track] in that the AMA allows you to ride three different classes in the same day. Therefore a rider competing in three classes: district fee-$25.00+$5.00 second class+$5.00 third class was being rewarded for $25.00+$10.00+$10.00. District fee =$35.00, awards= $45.00. Our trophy bill for the banquet for 2007 was $18,000.00. The total expert payout for awards total for District 7 motocross was $8,510.00.  Throughout  paid out in cash at the year, end banquet. Through out the year at every Gold Series race, we awarded the youth, B class, C class, and women $500.00, per event, in tokens that could be exchanged for banquet tickets, practice fees, and race fees at Gold Series events. That was a total of $6,500.00 given out to the amateur riders duringthroughout the year. Seventy-eight percent (78%) of those monies have already been turned back in for fees and banquet tickets. These tokens are still good next year and the years after. This program is continuing in 2008.

With the new Yellow Card allAll motocross riders will also be able to ride all MAMA and Delmarva events at no extra cost. The three series have been designed to run on alternate weekends and, for the most part, to not compete against each other. Thus the rider can ride wherever and with whomwhom ever he or she wishes with no extra fees.

Applications that have been received in-house after September 1, 2006 through the current date will be given the option to apply for the yellow card/application or, if other than motocross, elect to leave their application as it is.  The membership department will be in touch with those folks via phone or email ASAP.  If you don’t hear from them you can contact them at district7membership@comcast.net or call 410-344-9106. These applications will be processed as soon as we have our database converted and receive the new cards from the printer.

No one wants to see prices go up but it’s unavoidable. Houses are triple what they were 15 years ago. .when I bought mine. Gas, bread, milk, trophies, motorcycles and tire prices, tires are all up. You can’t fill your truck or van up to get your bikes to the races for $40.00 any more. Your money is going back into the sport you love so much. We understand what it costs to go racing! Our goal here is to share the wealth as much as possible and give back more money and awards to our Gold Series competitors.
