This is to clear up the confusion on how MAMA riders will compete in the 2005-racing season. In August of 2004 is when the information was passed on to MAMA officials as to how their riders will be viewed in AMA sanctioned events. Understanding that this was in the middle or more towards the end of the season, the timeliness of the information and rule changes for the MAMA organization will be take into consideration. Understanding that this organization is built around the youth riders in the district and surrounding area, this is how the changes will take place:
*"A" riders competing in the MAMA organization that finished in the top "5", will remain "A" riders. All remaining "A" riders that hold a RPV of 15 or higher, or have been advanced from "B" to "A" by the organization or any outside organization, will remain in the "A" class. All other riders will be allowed to step down to the "B" class.
*"B" riders that have been advanced to the "A" class, will remain "A" riders. No "B" riders will be allowed to step down to the "C" class.
*All "C" riders that have been advanced to the "B" class will remain "B" riders.
*All riders that have competed in a higher rider classification outside of the MAMA organization, will remain in the highest classification that they have competed.
Please understand from this point forward, all riders in the MAMA organization, are no longer allowed to step down one classification when competing outside the organization. It is up to the organization to develop a class structure to coincide with the AMA Sports rulebook in order to protect their riders. Please feel free to contact me at the AMA office with any additional questions.
Sincerely
,Steven Carnegie, AMA Sports Manager
